The Butterfly Effect (2004)
| |
Posted Feb 5, 2004 by: Hermione
I've always stood by the notion that movies from which one expects very little are typically the ones to surprise the most. After having seen The Butterfly Effect, from which I expected absolutely nothing and only saw to keep a friend happy, I stand by that notion even more. The film was great, disturbing at times, but certainly one that kept me interested and guessing throughout. And who knew that Asthon Kutcher could actually act?

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

I remember reading a review a few years back (I think it was in Entertainment Weekly) of Tony Scott’s Spy Game which pointed out the anachronism of Brad Pitt wearing a modern-day San Diego Padres cap for much of the film’s 1985 segment, flaunting its disregard for history as a fashion statement. Posted Oct 13, 2003 by: Digger
There’s a pretty good movie out inspired by the sad life of porn king John Holmes that tracks his sad descent from God of the bedroom to doped-out criminal that culminates with a bizarre robbery-murder in the hills of Hollywood. The film moves at a break-neck pace, juxtaposing the comedic with the tragic, giving a sense of both the highs and lows of a decade of excess. That film is called Boogie Nights and if you’re familiar with it then there’s really no reason to waste your time with Wonderland, a more “official” take on Johnny Wadd that trades in insight or personality for a double helping of scuzziness. You won’t really learn much about addiction, the porn industry, or Holmes as a human being, but Goddamn if you won’t be clamoring for a shower afterwards.

Monthly Schmuck
First Britney, now Christina. What’s with the current glut of music videos that trade on soft-porn images? I finally got around to watching Christina Aguillera’s music video, “Dirty”. I’ve seen parts of it before, but didn’t pay much attention.
